Trade and Media Services Ltd. is a private, family company based on Rotorua, New
Zealand, at the heart of the Southern Hemisphere forest industry.
TMS was established in 1994 to help facilitate the trade in forest products and
services between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and to heighten awareness among the
countries of the South.
Since that time, the company has established the Southern Hemisphere Forest Industry
Journal, the annual Yearbook and has published a number of associated reports and other
publications. It has also launched a fortnightly newsletter and digital country reports.
New services are continually being introduced and improved.
The directors of TMS are Mike Smith and Sue Wilkie
|Director: Mike Smith
||Mike completed his journalism training at Auckland Technical Institute in
1976, and moved to Hamilton to work on the Waikato Times. More daily journalism followed
until Mike set up a freelance consultancy in Rotorua in 1981, providing copy for a range
of trade publications, newspapers business magazines, including "National Business
Review" and the "Independent".
Mike worked in corporate public relations
in Singapore in the early 1990s, and on return to Rotorua, set up a new consultancy
business "Business Media Services" and a publishing company, "Trade and
Media Services Limited".
Along with helping Rotorua companies with their communications, Mike researches, writes
and publishes a range of news and information on the forest-growing countries of the
Southern Hemisphere. Mike is currently editor and director for both the Southern
Hemisphere Forest Industry Journal and for SOUTHEM Online. Mike also is the publisher of
the New Zealand Journal of Forestry.
|Director Sue Wilkie
||Sue trained as a journalist in the mid 1970s at what was then Auckland
Technical Institute. After a year in print, she worked for Radio New Zealand in Hamilton,
Timaru and Rotorua, until 1987.
In 1990 Sue was part of the set-up team for Mana
News, delivering Maori news on National Radio and the iwi stations. Sue joined
forces with Mike 1995. Her area of expertise is in providing business communication
services for a wide range of clients, in liaising with businesses seeking a higher
profile, in providing a writing services for businesses and in finding new authors for BMS
