Fun Sites

The Southern Hemisphere really is a fun place to live and play as well as to do forestry business. Here’s a selection of sites from SOUTHEM Online:

View some beaut surf beaches through video cam at: http://www.surf.co.nz/camera.html

The Australian Directory of Live Streaming Web Cams and Online Radio site contains every live and stream web cam and on line radio station, from surf cams to traffic cams to online down under live streaming radio.  Links to other live cams.  It’s almost like being there…almost.

Everything you wanted to know about the America's Cup yachting and the next defence by Team New Zealand at http://www.americascup.org/

Xena horror - death of a legend (or should that be a myth?) - Hollywood is not only ending Xena: The Warrior Princess, they've just killed her off.  Read more at http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/2001/03/19/FFXF5D1MFKC.html

Few expressions of national feeling are more recognizable than the “haka”, often performed by sporting groups representing New Zealand.   This site might help give readers a better understanding of the haka and its meaning. http://www.haka.co.nz/

Sick of the humdrum mid-year blues?  Got an itch for a far off locale to recharge the batteries.  The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is the recognised authority on Pacific Asia travel and tourism – the site’s pretty formal but it is an unbiased look at what’s available out there.  Along with PATA info it provides links to provides government tourist offices, airlines, hotels, travel agencies, tour operators and related companies.  Go to: http://www.pata.org/

This Auckland, New Zealand based site offers a wide variety of services for avid golf fans. www.goforgolf.com

Not exactly a Southern Hemisphere site, but no doubt interest will be high in how golfers from our part of the world fare at the home of golf.  The official site is at http://www.opengolf.com/ where you can log on to a live scoreboard

As a matter of interest, there has been some controversy about the cost of tickets to the New Zealand Golf Open next January, with prices being pushed up due to the appearance fee being asked by a single player who just happens to be THE one.  However, the asking price of about NZ$500 for the week compares pretty favourably with the US$450 price for a full week pass at Royal Lytham Golf Course for the British Open.   Organisers of the New Zealand event will launch their site in a couple of weeks, when you can go to www.open2002.co.nz .

NICOLE KIDMAN IN EX-CRUISE MODE
INCONSOLABLE -- SHOCK HORROR
Australian actress Nicole Kidman today said she may never recover from her spilt with Tom Cruise.  The stars shocked Hollywood when they announced their marriage was over after 10 years and began divorce proceedings.  Today, Kidman said she was still coping with the end of their relationship as she promoted her new film, Moulin Rouge, which also stars British actor Ewan McGregor.  Oh dear, never mind. http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/2001/05/08/FFXQXRNJGMC.html

Get away from it all with a walk on the Hollyford Track in the South Island of New Zealand.  Said by promoters to be the “greatest mountains to the sea guided walking track in the world”.  Go to www.hollyfordtrack.co.nz

Australian Wilderness Safaris (AWS) operates unique environmental guided safaris to the Daintree River, Cape Tribulation and beyond. Featuring expert naturalist guides and small group sizes, Australian Wilderness Safaris is famous for bringing visitors from all over the world closer to the wonders of this World Heritage region. http://www.great-barrier-reef.com/aws/index.html
